I’ve often wondered when was the best time to post photos to Flickr to get the most views, so I decided to look at ranking data from the site tracker site Alexa to get an idea of traffic trends for Flickr.
I had believed that the weekend might be a good time to post. My thought was that folks have more free time, are surfing more, and potentially are looking at more photos. I could not have been more wrong.
According to Alexa, Flickr sees its highest traffic rating through the week, but especially on Monday!
The highlighted area represents the highest traffic ranks for the month of March 2010. The peaks almost always coincide with the beginning of the week hash marks. The valleys almost always on the preceding two days.
What could explain that?
Looking at Alexa’s demographics for Flickr users, more Flickr users are browsing photos from work or school.
So if you want to improve your photo views on Flickr: Post late Sunday or early Monday to take advantage of the early week boost in site traffic.
